Compete.com

Compete.com was a big-data SaaS analytics application. I worked there from early 2011 to early 2017. The site was devoted to the search and display of complex web analytics.

In my role(s) as Senior Front-end Developer, Scrum Master, and Web Dev Team Lead, I worked closely with Product and Design to implement two major redesigns, A/B testing of marketing and sales UI, and numerous feature updates.

One of the big changes I was involved with implementing was the separation of the free tool with limited data from our paid app with robust data. When I first started at Compete, the paid app was an extension of the free app. In practice, this meant that the free app was more than 60% upsells to the paid app and finding actual data was frustrating. Separating them out into completely different experiences allowed for more experimentation on the free app (along with analytic analysis to see what features drove sales conversions), a friendlier experience for users who were unlikely to ever convert because the free app was sufficient, and the ability for more design freedom to build out a feature-rich paid experience.

Another large project I worked on was the creation of a new customer support website. For this, I was more hands-on with the design, building a fully functional wireframe in HTML and CSS.
